Success Stories
We left a deposit on a car in January 2024
Purchasing a car via a PCP, (which we have never done before) we had no understanding of this, and we made the salespeople aware of this at the time.
We did feel a little bit of pressure at the time but thought once we got home and looked at the deal in black and white it would make sense and sit comfortably.
However, we just began to feel more uneasy. At no time did we see the Financial Agreement in the showroom and then after trying to get hold of it for several days afterwards too we were told we could do this when we collected the car, but we wanted to see it before, until this point, we had only been talked through figures in the showroom with the sales pressure etc.
We were also encouraged to take out the ceramic coating on the paintwork, we agreed at the time saying we may change our minds. We queried paying this outright, as otherwise we would pay this over 36 months with interest and were advised not to as this price is put on the purchase and so is covered by the GAP insurance. Again, feeling uneasy that we were then going to pay interest on this amount for 3 years we were feeling more unsettled about the purchase.
The PX offer was also way lower than we expected and not acceptable to us but again we said leave it on there and we will likely change our minds on this and sell privately.
It was only at this point we also discovered we would pay around 8K in interest! After we said we would not come to the showroom until we had seen the figures.
We decided to run things by Anthony, a friend who knows the trade well, and whom we knew we would get an honest answer from.
When we started to explain what had happened, he finished the story and gave us the figures before we told or confirmed anything to him.
He advised us to cancel the deal and request our deposit back.
We emailed the Business Manager who advised the Salesperson would need to process this, he was off that day, but would get him to process the following day. We thought all was OK as we were not made aware that there would be an issue with the deposit even at this point.
We then received a phone call asking if they could find us something else, asking what had changed our minds and how they spent over three and a half hours with us! It was at this point he advised the deposit was non-refundable. We advised we were not aware of that, and he said they had incurred costs so it would be better to find another car than lose it.
We messaged Anthony again and he got the details from us and rang through, we then had our refund processed and the deposit has now been received back to us. Even at this point we were advised that this was not normal practice to do this.
Anthony saved us from days of unease and worry along with probably many sleepless nights, sorting this with one phone call!
We are grateful for him stepping in to help!
